Summertime Wiener

Hot dog season is officially here! According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (Yes, that’s really a thing!) from Memorial Day to Labor Day it’s estimated that Americans will eat close to 7 billion hot dogs! Now that’s a lot of wiener. During a recent interview with KARE 11 Minneapolis, Rob Dubnecay of Chicago’s Taste Authority Restaurant (located in Minnesota…hmm) offered some great suggestions for how to step up your hot dog game this summer. It’s all about fun when it comes to toppings whether you’re at the beach or a backyard bbq grab what ever is at hand and be creative from mac and cheese to pulled pork, sriracha sauce or crushed Fritos, go for it! Rob’s only rule is “We dress the hot dog. We do not dress the bun”. Well said!

Featured this month at Chicago’s Taste Authority is the Hawaiian Dog the perfect summer blend of of an all Beef Hot Dog on a plain bun topped with BBQ Sauce, Diced Canadian Bacon, Crispy Onions, and Pineapple Tidbits. Check out Rob’s other great summer time recipes on the video below

One of my favorite ways to top a hot dog in the summer is extra, extra grilled onions with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce. Do you plan on trying some new hot dog toppings this summer? Share in the comment section.
